Martha Stewart Weddings Featured my Work and Interviewed me.

I’m very excited to share with all of you my features and interview in Martha Stewards Weddings Middle East fall issue. They interviewed me in their section of interviews with industry experts and featured two weddings I photographed. Aya and Medhat’s wedding at the Hyatt Regency in Sharm El Sheikh and Sherifa and Fredrik’s wedding at the Andrawis Nile Garden in Cairo. I want to thank both couples for graciously agreeing to work with Martha Stewart Weddings in making these features happen and for the wonderful people at Martha Stewart for inviting me to share my work with their readers.

Egypt’s Largest Pro-Democracy Demonstrations in History… so far | February 1st 2011

Hello everyone. Internet has finally been restored in Egypt and I expect you’ll be receiving a flood of media from people who have been aching to get their photos and videos out to the rest of the world. I’ve been going to political demonstrations since I was 16 years old and I have never felt as emotional as I did yesterday when I stood atop a rooftop looking over the crowd that was overflowing in Tahrir (Liberation) Square yesterday afternoon. To watch a million people after decades of oppression demanding in unison freedom and the end to dictatorship was awe-inspiring. I cannot begin to describe how proud and privileged I felt witnessing this historic moment in Egypt.

I had been down in the square and could barely move because not only was the square filled with people but they were packed in there like sardines. The crowd was massive and people kept coming. The atmosphere was festive and it was clear that it was only a matter of time before the regime would have to submit to the will of the people. Below are images I captured of the day. The crowd was young and old, men and women, people of all faiths and whole families coming together. The atmosphere was polite peaceful and festive. Civilians organized security searching bags and checking people’s IDs as they entered the demonstration. Here are some images.

Saturday after the police withdrew from the streets Egypt was a new country. In Cairo we saw civilians all over the place directing traffic, picking up trash, and organizing neighborhood watches to protect their communities. Here are images from the past two days. Egyptians Protest the Regime | Scenes from Midan Tahrir (Liberation Square) in Cairo Egypt

Inspired by the events in Tunisia Egyptians have held protests all over the country calling for the fall of the ruling regime. In Cairo protests were reported in Giza, Boolah, Ard al Lewa, Maadi and Downtown Cairo amongst other places. Protests were also held outside of Cairo at Rafah in Sinai, Asyut, Aswan, Alexandria, Mahalla, Tanta, Qina and many other locations throughout Egypt. Here are some images from the demonstrations in Downtown Cairo in Midan Tahrir which attracted thousands of protestors. This guy picked up a souvenir; the helmet of one of the riot police.

It was difficult to capture quite how many people were there in one image because they were all over the square but it was easily at least 2 or 3 thousand at its peak before I left around 5:30.

Some of the protestors brought their children with them. A rare scene at protests in Cairo.

This demonstrator is spray-painting the words down with Mubarak (The Egyptian President) on the wall.

As reinforcements for the riot police arrived some of the demonstrators try to stop the trucks carrying them and then trucks sped up and these guys jumped onto the front.

This guy got the shield from one of the riot police and is holding up a V for Victory sign.

We’re moving into a new office in Zamalek in February and I’m very excited about our new space and the added services we’ll be offering our clients. Cairo Egypt Photographer | Cairo Celebrates 2-0 Victory Over Algeria in World Cup Qualifier Match

Tonight Egypt beat Algeria two nil keeping it in the running for qualifying to represent Africa in the World Cup. A final match will be played on Wednesday to see which team will finally qualify. Here are some shots I took tonight of people filling the streets in Zamalek and Downtown celebrating the win.
