Ben and Marine wed in Le Mans France | Destination Wedding Photographer

I’ve been close friends with Ben and Marine for several years. In my first year of college Ben lived a few doors down from me in our freshman dorms. In our third year of college we both went to Europe to study abroad; Ben to Paris and I to London. While Ben was at Sciences Po Paris he met Marine and they both came to visit me in London soon afterwards. From those first few days in London I could see they had something special. We had a wonderful time and I was impressed by Marine’s ability to enjoy Ben’s quirky sense of humor. Ben’s jokes are hilarious…if you’re Ben The fact that Marine could also laugh at them made her perfect for him.

In the ensuing years they survived times of distance and lived between Europe and the US making things work and I’m so glad they did, though I’m sure they’re even more pleased than me. When they asked me to join them in Le Mans, France (Marine’s home town) to photograph their wedding I immediately agreed.

The wedding was just stunning. The cathedral Marine chose for their marriage ceremony was absolutely gorgeous and the chateau they chose for their reception was lovely as well. It was great spending the day with our old friends and their families. Their friends put on a flash mob dance and Marine’s nephews broke dance in the middle of the reception. I want to thank Ben and Marine so much for having me shoot their special day and I wish you both all the best in your lives together.

Martha Stewart Weddings Featured my Work and Interviewed me.

I’m very excited to share with all of you my features and interview in Martha Stewards Weddings Middle East fall issue. They interviewed me in their section of interviews with industry experts and featured two weddings I photographed. Aya and Medhat’s wedding at the Hyatt Regency in Sharm El Sheikh and Sherifa and Fredrik’s wedding at the Andrawis Nile Garden in Cairo. I want to thank both couples for graciously agreeing to work with Martha Stewart Weddings in making these features happen and for the wonderful people at Martha Stewart for inviting me to share my work with their readers.

Like I mentioned in my last post the day after Aya and Medhat’s wedding we decided to do a special session for just the two of them on the beautiful grounds of the Hyatt Regency in Sharm El Sheikh. At the far end of the hotel there is an isolated beach that almost no one visits that proved to be the perfect location for a private session for the two of them. These are honestly some of my favorite couple photos I’ve ever taken and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. As always I love hearing your comments so please do share them. Thanks so much.

Aya got in touch with me in January. She sent me an email asking if I photograph weddings in Sharm El Sheikh. I was checking out of my hotel in Sharm when I received the email having just shot a wedding there at the Grand Rotana Resort. Aya and I exchanged emails discussing the details of her wedding and what she had in mind. She planned every little detail to blend together perfectly. She was attentive to the schedule, the lighting and every aspect of the decorations. The wedding she arranged was absolutely stunning. I’m really in love with the photos we captured over two days in Sharm. This post is devoted to the photos we got during the wedding day itself. Christine and Nader were a wonderful couple to work with. Christine was a huge fan of my work and while many of my clients have told me how much they tell their friends about me I have never attended a wedding at which so many of the guests had visited my website (at Christine’s instructions) and greeted me with compliments regarding my photography. The day went beautifully. We began in Christine’s grandmother’s old apartment in Garden City which was absolutely stunning. Also Christine’s grandmother was exceptionally sweet to us during our time at the flat. Then we moved to the Church near Korba and finally ended up at a garden near Alexandria Desert Road. The reception venue was beautiful and we arrived a couple of hours before sunset allowing for photographing in the most beautiful light a photographer can ask for. Here are some of the images that tell the days story. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Thanks.

Omar and Kathryn are a great couple I met this last December. They’re based in DC where I used to live and came out here to celebrate their wedding near Omar’s family which is based in Cairo. They had a second ceremony in Nebraska near Kathryn’s family. I had a wonderful time at their wedding. DJ Roro and Said Mrad did an amazing job keeping people dancing. Dina Iskandar’s decor was excellent as always. Omar and Kathryn brought together an exceptionally cosmopolitan group of friends from just about everywhere with some pretty incredible and energetic dancers amongst them as you’ll see below. Thanks Omar and Kathryn for having me on your special day and congrats to you both.

The Demonstrators of Tahrir and their Newspapers | February 6th 2011

This morning I went to Tahrir to see the Christian and Muslim prayers to be held. It was great to see the solidarity but something else that struck me upon arriving was the enormous number of people sitting and reading the paper all over the square. These images felt like the perfect response to all the people who think the people in Tahrir are illiterate or uninformed. Please share these images.

Egypt’s Largest Pro-Democracy Demonstrations in History… so far | February 1st 2011

Hello everyone. Internet has finally been restored in Egypt and I expect you’ll be receiving a flood of media from people who have been aching to get their photos and videos out to the rest of the world. I’ve been going to political demonstrations since I was 16 years old and I have never felt as emotional as I did yesterday when I stood atop a rooftop looking over the crowd that was overflowing in Tahrir (Liberation) Square yesterday afternoon. To watch a million people after decades of oppression demanding in unison freedom and the end to dictatorship was awe-inspiring. I cannot begin to describe how proud and privileged I felt witnessing this historic moment in Egypt.

I had been down in the square and could barely move because not only was the square filled with people but they were packed in there like sardines. The crowd was massive and people kept coming. The atmosphere was festive and it was clear that it was only a matter of time before the regime would have to submit to the will of the people. Below are images I captured of the day. The crowd was young and old, men and women, people of all faiths and whole families coming together. The atmosphere was polite peaceful and festive. Civilians organized security searching bags and checking people’s IDs as they entered the demonstration. Here are some images.

Saturday after the police withdrew from the streets Egypt was a new country. In Cairo we saw civilians all over the place directing traffic, picking up trash, and organizing neighborhood watches to protect their communities. Here are images from the past two days.
