Christine and Nader Wed in Cairo Garden | Cairo Egypt Wedding Photography

Christine and Nader were a wonderful couple to work with. Christine was a huge fan of my work and while many of my clients have told me how much they tell their friends about me I have never attended a wedding at which so many of the guests had visited my website (at Christine’s instructions) and greeted me with compliments regarding my photography. The day went beautifully. We began in Christine’s grandmother’s old apartment in Garden City which was absolutely stunning. Also Christine’s grandmother was exceptionally sweet to us during our time at the flat. Then we moved to the Church near Korba and finally ended up at a garden near Alexandria Desert Road. The reception venue was beautiful and we arrived a couple of hours before sunset allowing for photographing in the most beautiful light a photographer can ask for. Omar and Katherine are a really great couple based out in DC who came to Cairo to get married and have Omar’s family in attendance. Katherine’s family is from Nebraska and they’ll be having a second wedding out there shortly with all of them as well. A week before the wedding we headed downtown together to get some shots of the two of them together before the craziness of the days before the wedding overwhelmed them and their schedule. We checked out Talaat Harb and walked over by the Townhouse cultural center to get some shits. Then we rode a felucca together on the nile to get away from the crowds and finally we found ourselves in Ganaynat al Asmak in Zamalek to get in a few last shots in the relaxing atmosphere of the park. Working with Omar and Katherine was a pleasure and their wedding on New Year’s day at Katameya Heights was a blast.

Over the past few months we’ve been offering clients something a little different as an add-on to their wedding photography package; photobooths. Basically we set up a mini studio outside your wedding venue, bring a lot of props and have a photographer there all night taking some hilarious and memorable photos of you, your family and your friends. A few days ago I got to shoot an engagement session of Ahmed and Dalia who will be getting married in a couple of weeks. Ahmed insisted that he wasn’t photogenic, but I think these shots prove otherwise. We had a lot of fun experimenting and getting lost at the Citadel. Ahmed and Dalia were great to work with and very easy going as we got lost about 5 million times that day. Towards the end of our visit the Citadel was invaded by literally hundreds of schoolchildren who kept saying to us a broken “aloooo” and staring at us as we worked in curiosity. This was my first shoot with my new 45mm Tilt Shift Lens. Look for the shots where the top and bottom of the picture are blurred to see the special results that come out of this fantastic piece of glass. After the Citadel we made our way to one of my favorite spots to shoot, Aquarium Park (Ganaynat al Asmak) in Zamalek. As always I love to hear your comments and what you think of the shoot. This was one of the most challenging weddings I’ve ever shot. That said, it was extremely fun and at times extremely confusing. This wedding had a traditional Egyptian Wedding Zaffa (Wedding Entrance), Western speeches, Arabic poetry, a Yemeni Zaffa and wedding guests who spoke more languages than a UN translator would be able to swing. At various points in the evening I was instructing guests in English, Arabic and occasionally my very broken French (I would like to once again apologize to all the French guests for my horrendous accent and butchery of their language). Ben’s poor little brother, in my confusion, found me giving him instructions in Spanish; a language no one at the wedding actually spoke, but I had lost track at that point really. This wedding celebrated the union of Ben from France and Atiaf from Yemen. They brought with them their friends and families from uh, just about everywhere. The wedding also took place just about everywhere. I started shooting the prep at Hotel Safir in Zamalek (across the street from my apartment, pretty convenient). Then we took a van with the bride and her siblings (you’ll see) to the Swiss Club in Giza and about 14 hours after I started I found myself standing on the October 6th bridge shooting the afterparty somewhere between Zamalek and Downtown Cairo.

Like the wedding itself, this is a very long post, but if it’s any consolation when I first went through the roughly 5000 pictures I took that day it was quite a bit longer I hope you enjoy the images as much as I enjoyed photographing the wedding. If possible I hope you’re nearly as confused as I found myself as well…

Now for just a quick costume change…

Karim and Dina Trash the Dress in Sahel!

Last weekend I went up to Sahel with Karim and Dina to do a couple shoot on the beach. Karim’s sister loaned Dina her old wedding dress and we finally got to do a shoot I’ve been dying to do in Egypt: Trash the Dress! We started the day with a normal couple shoot and then had Karim and Dina change into something a bit less comfortable before throwing them both wearing a suit and wedding gown into the sea and a swimming pool. It was a great day and we all had a lot of fun. I want to thank Dina’s parents for being great hosts. It was wonderful meeting the family. Watch out for Karim and Dina’s wedding pics this fall.
