Shooting at the Marriott in Zamalek is always special and not just because it’s 5 minutes from my home The architecture inside is stunning. Built in a late Ottoman style; this former palace turned 5 star hotel has a lot to offer in terms of its character. Sara and Adel’s wedding there was a beautiful affair. Their friends and family were all very warm and welcoming and made the experience very enjoyable. Here are a few shots from throughout the day. Congrats Sara and Adel.

Ahmed and Gemma met in the UK and flew to Cairo for their wedding. This wedding was quite different in many ways from most weddings I photograph. There was no DJ with massive speakers and a packed dance floor, no large traditional Zaffa with tablas, and everything ran on time! Instead Ahmed and Gemma had a lovely string quartet play throughout the evening with a harpist during dinner. I want to once more highlight the schedule. Dinner was scheduled for 10:15 PM. At 10:13 I was in my seat and waiters were entering the hall. The wedding was scheduled to conclude at midnight. It admittedly ended just a tiny bit late, 12:03 For someone accustomed to weddings starting 1-2 hours late and running well into the next morning this was a dramatic shift in expectations. In the more important ways, however, this wedding was like every wedding I’ve had the privilege to photograph; it was a day full of emotions. Gemma’s mother was glowing with pride and Ahmed’s father could not stop photographing his handsome groom of a son. My good friend Mohamed Abdelhamid came to do Gemma’s makeup and introduce her to the Egyptian ‘tradition’ of eyelash extensions in spite of her swearing to me last fall she wouldn’t get them. All in all it was a lovely evening and Ahmed and Gemma were a pleasure to work with. Thanks for having me join you on your special night.

A few days ago I got to shoot an engagement session of Ahmed and Dalia who will be getting married in a couple of weeks. Ahmed insisted that he wasn’t photogenic, but I think these shots prove otherwise. We had a lot of fun experimenting and getting lost at the Citadel. Ahmed and Dalia were great to work with and very easy going as we got lost about 5 million times that day. Towards the end of our visit the Citadel was invaded by literally hundreds of schoolchildren who kept saying to us a broken “aloooo” and staring at us as we worked in curiosity. This was my first shoot with my new 45mm Tilt Shift Lens. Look for the shots where the top and bottom of the picture are blurred to see the special results that come out of this fantastic piece of glass. After the Citadel we made our way to one of my favorite spots to shoot, Aquarium Park (Ganaynat al Asmak) in Zamalek. As always I love to hear your comments and what you think of the shoot. This was a really fun shoot I got to do with Joseph and Marina before their wedding. I’ve known them since last year when I photographed their engagement. It was a fun night and it was great meeting their family who danced the whole night making it a great and energetic party. When we started talking about their wedding and wedding photos I suggested doing a shoot at the train yard by Ramses Station where they fix old trains and they both immediately loved the idea. The first several images are from that shoot. The second part was shot at the Aquarium Park in Zamalek. Stay tuned for their wedding photos. It was an amazing party!

“It’s prohibited to sit on the greenery!” Oh well…

This was one of the most challenging weddings I’ve ever shot. That said, it was extremely fun and at times extremely confusing. This wedding had a traditional Egyptian Wedding Zaffa (Wedding Entrance), Western speeches, Arabic poetry, a Yemeni Zaffa and wedding guests who spoke more languages than a UN translator would be able to swing. At various points in the evening I was instructing guests in English, Arabic and occasionally my very broken French (I would like to once again apologize to all the French guests for my horrendous accent and butchery of their language). Ben’s poor little brother, in my confusion, found me giving him instructions in Spanish; a language no one at the wedding actually spoke, but I had lost track at that point really. This wedding celebrated the union of Ben from France and Atiaf from Yemen. They brought with them their friends and families from uh, just about everywhere. The wedding also took place just about everywhere. I started shooting the prep at Hotel Safir in Zamalek (across the street from my apartment, pretty convenient). Then we took a van with the bride and her siblings (you’ll see) to the Swiss Club in Giza and about 14 hours after I started I found myself standing on the October 6th bridge shooting the afterparty somewhere between Zamalek and Downtown Cairo.

Like the wedding itself, this is a very long post, but if it’s any consolation when I first went through the roughly 5000 pictures I took that day it was quite a bit longer I hope you enjoy the images as much as I enjoyed photographing the wedding. If possible I hope you’re nearly as confused as I found myself as well…

Now for just a quick costume change…

From the first time I met Ben and Atiaf I knew this was going to be a great couple to work with. They had amazing chemistry, were really laid back and got along beautifully. They also really trusted me to get the right shots and even allowed me to convince them to meet me at 8:30 in the morning at Talaat Harb on a Friday morning to start this shoot. Our goal was to get shots in the middle of one of Cairo’s busiest streets when it was completely empty. After shooting on Talaat Harb and around there for a bit we moved over to Zamalek’s Aquarium Park (Ganaynat al Asmak). Ben is from France and Atiaf is Yemeni and the wedding conducted a few days after this shoot was a crazy but incredibly fun party. Keep your eyes open for those pictures in the coming weeks. For now, meet Atiaf and Ben.

Cairo Egypt Photographer | Cairo Celebrates 2-0 Victory Over Algeria in World Cup Qualifier Match

Tonight Egypt beat Algeria two nil keeping it in the running for qualifying to represent Africa in the World Cup. A final match will be played on Wednesday to see which team will finally qualify. Here are some shots I took tonight of people filling the streets in Zamalek and Downtown celebrating the win.

Nermine and George Wedding in Zamalek, Cairo, Egypt

I had the pleasure of spending the day with Nermine and George on their wedding day at the end of May. We started by having Carol do Nermine’s makeup and then went back to her home where her and her mother got their hair done and then we were off to the church followed by a great party at Sofitel Gezira in Cairo.
